City Council chair posts lists of demands for Mardi Gras changes

Ahead of a council meeting where he plans to introduce an ordinance to recreate the Lafayette Mardi Gras commission, City Council Chair Kenneth Boudreaux has published a list of requests to Lafayette Consolidated Government regarding the costs of changing the parade route to go down Jefferson Street.

“We are involved because we are supposed to be involved. Council involvement is not new,” Boudreaux wrote in a Facebook post. Mayor-President Monique Boulet, who announced plans to change the route earlier this month, previously stated that it was not a matter of council jurisdiction, causing friction between her and the council chair.

Most of Boudreaux’s questions revolve around costs and potential property damage to Downtown.

The eight requests laid out in the letter to the administration include questions about the cost of trimming trees along Jefferson Street, and placing and removing barriers, as well as the mayor-president’s legal authority to change the route.

The request letter is dated Nov. 7, 2025, penned shortly after a Nov. 4 city council meeting, where a heated discussion of the changes took place. Boudreaux requested responses by Tuesday’s meeting.

City Council Chair Kenneth Boudreaux and council member Andy Naquin have proposed an amendment that would revive the Mardi Gras Commission in response to the mayor-president’s changes to the route late last month.

City Councilman Andy Naquin supported Boudreaux’s request for more consideration and public input on the change. The councilman is now bringing the Mardi Gras committee ordinance along with Boudreaux, which would create a nine-person commission to approve changes.

The ordinance would be up for a final vote on Dec. 2; it is unclear at this time what impact the formation of the committee would have on the 2026 route changes.

Ja, @HGU - genau so sehe ich das auch. In den antisozialen #Konzernmedien lösen #Neurohacking - Algorithmen häufiger #Polarisierung bis hin zur #Empörungssucht aus. Habe ja lange #Facebook , #Instagram & #X „durchgespielt“ und bin für den besseren #Dialog im #Fediversum dankbar. Zwar werde ich hier auch immer wieder von Accounts angepampt, die nicht zwischen Christdemokratie und Rechtskonservativismus unterscheiden können oder wollen. Aber die meisten hier sind doch offener.
