Today, I work remotely for Meta (Facebook). It is a job I got through pure luck — not skill, not merit, just dumb luck. I used to like my job because it was pretty simple: remove the assholes. I was in a position to take action against people who caused real harm and enact a small measure of justice — not just by blocking their accounts, but by making their devices, those $1,000 iPhones, worthless and unable to ever register again.
Today, I hate my job. Because today, assholes have free rein. The CEO and much of management are compromised and are collaborating with the government to track down and harm innocent people. To my credit, I try to avoid participating in that, and I have even been written up recently for “not being a team player.” Because no, I am not going to forward someone’s information because they foolishly shared that they once had an abortion. And to anyone reading this: please do not do that — least of all on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, or any of our many products or services. It is no longer safe to use our platforms.
Today, my job protects racists, sexists, homophobes, transphobes, and Nazis. Hate speech — which is not free speech — has effectively become free speech as we continue to rewrite both the dictionary and the social contract of our society.
I would love to leave my job, but at forty-four, soon to be forty-five, all of my previous employers no longer exist, so I effectively have no verifiable work history. I also stay because staying has given me the opportunity to do some good in this messed-up world of ours. I am trying to learn about things you do not see in the news, and I try to warn others whenever I can. I also help by turning a blind eye to harmless, innocent things that our new system says we should report to the authorities (abortions and pregnancies, for example).
Meta is not the only private corporation that has been hijacked by the government. I do not use that word lightly — I mean hijacked — and collaborating with the tyranny that is unfolding here in the United States of America.
When someone reports a post that is pro-LGBTQ+, I now ignore the report, because I know that if I validate it, it counts as a double negative against the account. The same is true when someone defends minorities or women’s rights.
We are also testing a new filter in the background that has never been enabled, and it appears to target all of the above. If enabled, Meta would make it seem as though everyone were pro-American and pro–Donald Trump, and that everything in our world was A‑OK. I worry about the day they feel they need to use that filter — and why.

Are you deleting #Instagram and #Facebook, but don't want to lose track of your connections there? I'm happy to report that the desktop versions of both sites are far better than the apps, especially if you're blocking trackers (the mobile sites are predictably worse, but that'll just help you to disconnect even more).

Schaut man in die Timeline ist das ein bisschen wie bei #Facebook. Überwiegend Bullshit und irgendwelche Leute erzählen, wie toll doch ihre Tipps sind, um sich zu vermarkten.
Und es gibt ernsthaft Menschen, die auf den zerebralen Dünnschiss mit Applaus antworten 🤦♂️

3人被指在去年立法會選舉期間，於Facebook帳戶轉載帖文，煽惑他人在選舉中不投票，各被廉署起訴一項「在選舉期間內藉公開活動作出煽惑另一人不投票或投無效票的非法行為」罪。3宗案件今（15日）於西九龍裁判法院再提堂，其中2宗押後至5月29日再訊，以待控辯雙方商討，另一案件則押後至5月18日，以待被告醫生報告。3人各續准以1,000元保釋外出，不准離港、須交出所有旅遊證件及居於報稱地址。
廉署新聞稿指，3人分別轉載由姜嘉偉及湯偉雄發出的帖文，姜及湯亦被控相同罪名。法庭於案件首提堂時，已應廉署申請對2人發出通緝令。
