No imperative validation in app code. Constraints, foreign keys, check constraints — all declarative in PostgreSQL. No app can corrupt your data. PUT requests are enforced as idempotent.

I'm new to #selfhosting; I currently have several services running in my #homelab, all as #docker containers.
I've noticed that several services use common components such as #redis, #nginx, #postgres, etc.
Would it be possible or advisable not to duplicate individual components? For example, would it be possible to have a single independent container with Nginx or the DBMS serving Nextcloud and other services?

Any mastodon admins here who know about self-hosting mastodon?
I am currently struggling hard with setting up my own mastodon instance on docker using "docker compose".
My Mastodon page is showing the "Something is wrong on our side" banner. That's how far I've gotten so far.
Just pointing me to the docker documentation would be an immense help right now, since I can't find any explicit docker setup guides.
