Lo que OpenAI presentó como un paso necesario para la seguridad nacional se ha convertido en una pesadilla de relaciones públicas. Según datos de análisis de aplicaciones reportados por TechCrunch, las desinstalaciones de ChatGPT han aumentado un impactante 295% en apenas 48 horas. La cifra es el resultado directo de una rebelión de usuarios que rechazan la colaboración de la compañía con el Departamento de Defensa (DoD) de los Estados Unidos.
El movimiento, que se ha viralizado bajo el hashtag #CancelChatGPT, marca la mayor crisis de retención de usuarios en la historia de OpenAI. La comunidad ha reaccionado con dureza ante lo que perciben como una «traición» a los principios fundacionales de la empresa sobre el desarrollo seguro y ético de la IA.
Las razones detrás del «Gran Borrado»
El malestar de los usuarios no se limita solo al contrato en sí, sino a la forma en que se gestó:
- El contraste con Anthropic: El rechazo masivo se intensificó al conocerse que Anthropic (creadora de Claude) prefirió ser vetada por el gobierno y declarada «riesgo de suministro» antes que eliminar sus salvaguardas contra la vigilancia doméstica y el uso en armas autónomas.

Los usuarios están compartiendo capturas de pantalla de sus suscripciones canceladas en OpenAI junto con recibos de su nueva suscripción a «Claude Pro Max», citando la postura ética de Dario Amodei como el factor decisivo.
La respuesta de OpenAI
Intentando contener la salida de usuarios, Sam Altman emitió un comunicado defendiendo el acuerdo:
«Creemos que nuestro acuerdo tiene más salvaguardas que cualquier despliegue previo de IA clasificada. No estamos proporcionando modelos sin restricciones ni permitiendo su uso en dispositivos de ataque autónomos».
