BBC News | Musk says basis of charitable giving at stake in OpenAI lawsuit

AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.

A trial in Oakland pits Elon Musk against OpenAI co‑founder Sam Altman over a lawsuit alleging that Altman and other executives “stole a charity” by turning OpenAI’s original nonprofit into a commercial venture. Musk, who contributed roughly $38 million to the nonprofit, says the move breaches charitable trust and amounts to unjust enrichment, seeking billions in damages to restore the nonprofit arm and oust Altman. OpenAI’s lawyers counter that Musk’s motivations stem from jealousy and a desire to control the company, accusing him of bullying founders and trying to merge OpenAI with his own firms. Both sides have been warned by the judge not to use their platforms to influence the case, and a verdict is expected in late May.

Why 90% of AI Startups Will Fail (And How to Spot the Winners)

In venture capital, we talk about the "90/10 rule"—90% of returns come from 10% of investments. For AI startups, the ratio is even more extreme. Perhaps 5% will generate meaning...

Our Representatives Have Failed to Protect The People In a Digital Age

A thought about how we are "products" for big tech. We live in a world where our main forms of communication are owned by behemoth corporations that arguably have a monopoly on the market. You know how you can only download apps from the itunes app store or the google play store? Android currently has some other options for sideloading, which google is looking to kill this September. That's what's laughable about capitalism, how they gaslight us into thinking we have choice. How is it good […]

🤔 Oh, so you've managed to run DOOM inside and Claude? Congrats on reinventing the wheel! 🚀 Why not just play it like a normal human on a regular device? But sure, let's complicate it with AI, because that's what the world needs: . 😂

#Musk, #SamAltman & other #AI “researchers” founded #OpenAI as a “nonprofit” in 2015, vowing to freely share its #technology with the rest of the world. But Musk left the start-up in 2018 after a power struggle with Altman — & before the public launch of #ChatGPT in 2022 catapulted OpenAI to commercial success.

If you use #AI tools, you probably upload or integrate content you control, and probably make use of real-time internet searches to integrate unpaywalled online content you don't control. What if you could integrate paywalled content licensed by your library? A new #Clarivate tool lets you do just that.

"#NexusConnect…enables users to access university-licensed content and services directly within their #AI chat interface…Clarivate said it is working with leading AI chat agent providers [the article mentions #ChatGPT and #Claude] to develop institutional connectors that address key priorities for universities, including ease of deployment, usage attribution and copyright protection."

PS: Lots of power here and lots of questions. To start: when Nexus Connect gives AI tools access to licensed content, can the tools train on it? Always, sometimes, never? Who decides? If users save the unique URLs of their chats, can their share the chats with people outside their institutions? Will authorized users have continuing access to those chats even if the libraries later cancel their subscriptions to the integrated content? Even if the publishers later change their policies on AI tool access and training?
