A week has gone by, with a little bit more to report on my publishing experience at Environmental Research Commications where ChatGPT was used by a reviewer to suggest references that I should include that were largely fake.
I'd missed this until it was pointed out to me - the reviewer had suggested African references were lacking (I included only one, from the Nile catchment). And the LLM had only selected 'papers' from southern Africa, and not the whole of the continent. Another example of ChatGPT bias?
