It's hard enough to convince people that good stuff can exist if we all just work together and pitch in, but #bluesky is forcing us to try to make that argument while they offer a free alternative paid for by others and the promise that even when they eventually stop and ask for it paid back many times over, providing that return will barely impact the service, if at all. Cause it's "decentralized".
And pointing this all out makes you the asshole.

Nein, ich war natuerlich nicht der einzige Rufer, sondern habe #Bluesky auch noch fuer 2 Jahre bespielt... aber inzwischen duerfte auch wirklich den Letzten klar sein, dass es ne typische US VC-Klitsche ist.
Schlimmer noch, die Krypto-Investoren dahinter sind auch in den Firmen investiert, die u.a. dabei geholfen haben den Scam mit den #Trump Coins durchzufuehren

So there was a transport system funded by ads, but it got bought out by Nazis. And while there was already an imperfect alternative fully funded by donations and everyone improving it together, at the moment of the Nazi buyout, somebody offered everyone free rides on their network. The donation system people said that can't last forever and look where their money is coming from. They're just trying to steal our thunder and wait for our system to deteriorate. Very few believed them.
